Our Curriculum

Taekwondo America is a national organization of schools around the United States. All of our schools follow the same training program of Taekwondo and a set of guidelines that designate the standards with which we teach and promote students in rank.

A literal translation of Taekwondo is "foot" (tae), "fist" (kwon) and "way" (do). It is a Korean martial art that is considered a "hard" (or striking) style of martial art. In Taekwondo, we use our legs about 70% of the time, and the art is most widely known for it's powerful kicks.

Taekwondo America follows the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) system of forms and sparring rules. While our website has an overview of the forms and rank requirements, we encourage you to purchase our Student Manual in order to have a greater understanding of Taekwondo America and our martial art.

Ki-Bon

Ki-Bon is the first form.

Joong-Gun

Joong-Gun is named after the patriot An Joong-Gun, who assassinated Hiro-Bumi Ito, the first Japanese governeror-general of Korea, know as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. Choong-Moo

Choong-Moo was the name given to Admiral Hi Sun-Sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armored battleship (Kobukson)in 1592 A.D., which was the precursor of the present day submarine. This pattern ends with a left hand attack to symbolize his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potential checked by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the king.
